Michael Gibson Jr
Michael Gibson Jr. is a 3x Lone Star Emmy Award winning producer, award winning filmmaker, and host of the Avert Your Eyes Podcast. He has spent over a decade working in media, the majority of that time as a producer at a local media company based in Dallas/Fort Worth. Michael has since gone on to create his podcast to focus on the various talented people in North Texas. Past guests include comedian Carl LaBove, musicians LeonCarlo and Richard Hennessy, actor Stephen Brodie, actress and producer Dana Schultes, filmmaker Monika Watkins, and actress Morgana Wilborn.
Michael graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in Radio, Television, and Film and a minor in English. While attending college, he interned and worked as a DJ for KNTU 88.1 FM. Michael was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica. He calls North Texas his home, having lived here since before he turned two years old.
He’s earned professional recognition throughout his career, including receiving two Lone Star Emmy Award, numerous Telly Awards, and other acclaim.
Michael has emceed several events around the Metroplex including the Denton Black Film Festival and the Dallas VideoFest’s Cat Festival. He has served as a judge during the Asian Film Festival of Dallas, and as a moderator at the Frame 4 Frame Film Festival in Arlington, TX.
When not working or out in the community, Michael loves to spend time reading, writing, performing comedy, doing photography, and film-making. One project he produced is a short film he co-wrote about some of the unexpected rigors of space travel called “Alora.” It won Best Space Travel Film at the 2019 Sci-On! Film Festival, Best Sci-Fi Short Film at the 2019 Fort Worth Indie Film Festival, and First Runner Up in the Best Texas Short Film category at the 2019 Denton Black Film Festival.
